    The King-Merritt Association, also known as the King-Merritt Community, was founded in 1952 as a neighborhood association comprised of homes on the former estate of John McEntee Bowman.

    "The objects and purposes of this organization shall be to promote civic improvement, community spirit, acquaintance and neighborliness, ... to do everything reasonable and proper to promote the civic betterment and the improvement of the community, and to encourage the preservation and protection of the property and rights of the home owner members of the organization." (Reproduced from the King-Merritt Community, Incorporated By-Laws, 1963)

  • Scope and Contents

    This collection is comprised of the papers of the King-Merritt association between 1958 and 1993. It is primarily the association's internal records, including meeting minutes for both the home owner members and the board of directors, notices, and by-laws. It also includes a series on planning and zoning, with both general planning and zoning concerns, and more specific zoning issues, with special focus on the Westchester Airport's desired expansion, and the requests of Xerox and American Canning Co. to put up executive offices in the area.

    This collections has been arranged into two series. Series 1: Association Records, comprised of internal records and correspondence. Series 2: Planning and Zoning, comprised of records and correspondence around zoning issues.
