  • Biographical / Historical

John B. Margenot is a resident of Cos Cob who has previously served as a member of the Representative Town Meeting, the Board of Estimate and Taxation, and as a Selectman was elected to five two-year terms as First Selectman of Greenwich from 1986-1995. He has been credited with, among other accomplishments, the establishment of the Greenwich Emergency Medical Service, obtaining Laddin's Rock as an open space, backing the Arch Street Teen Center, building the town transfer station and the town vehicle maintenance facility, implementing the town wide recycling program, and appoining committees to implement hunting restrictions, to study and curb domestic abuse, and to improve the town's water supply.

  • Scope and Contents

The papers cover the ten years (1986-1995) of Margenot's incumbency in the office of First Selectman of the Town of Greenwich, an office comparable to town mayor. The collection includes memorabilia of his years in office: awards, citations, proclamations, election banners and promotions, and a large collection of photographs commemorating his participation in civic events such as parades, dedications, school visits, and meetings with town and national figures.
