The North Mianus Community Center served the North Mianus area of what is now Cos Cob from the 1930s until sometime in the early 1980s. They ran community meetings, provided space for organizations and clubs to meet, provided the North Mianus area with day camps and pre-school educational programs, sponsored sports teams, and hosted many events. They were home to a garden club that won awards in local shows, a very successful football team, a support group for the mothers of twins, Troop 11 of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Cos Cob Archers among other groups. The closure of the North Mianus Community Center was not reported on, although newspaper records go up to 1982, and mentions of it disappear entirely until 2005 when the site was being considered for and ultimately turned into the Bridges School Early Program space.

  • Scope and Contents

This collection is primarily composed of the institutional records of the North Mianus Community Center. It contains a combination of internal records, including filled and unfilled forms, permits, receipts, petty cash inventories, meeting minutes, and correspondence; external records, including certifications, information from the State of Connecticut, and information from the Town of Greenwich. Other than institutional records, this collection also contains meeting information, photographs, and ephemera regarding several different clubs, activities, and organizations that made use of the North Mianus Community Center; this includes the Boy Scouts of America Troop 11, Cos Cob Archers, a community center run day camp and pre-school play group, dog obedience classes, and two garden clubs one for adults and one for children.

  • Arrangement

This collection has been arranged into three series. Series 1: Administrative Records, covers a collection of permits, receipts, internal correspondence, certifications, and information from the State of Connecticut and Town of Greenwich. Series 2: Activities and Organizations, covers materials related to either specific local organizations or broad activity themes in use at the community center. Series 3: Restricted Materials, contains two items with personal information that may still be identifying of living individuals.

  • Conditions Governing Access

Series 3: Restricted Materials. This series contains two specific items, a phone book and a bank book with filled out checks and information. These two items are restricted as they both contain information that may be identifying of individuals who are still living that they have not consented to be made public.
