This collection of letters are all addressed to Mrs. Harry Thurston Peck, likely Cornelia Peck nee. Dawbarn, Harry T. Peck's first wife. Cornelia and Harry were married from 1882 to 1908, so all of these letters fall during the course of their marriage. Cornelia filed for and was granted divorce on the grounds of desertion, and retained custody of their two children. Harry T. Peck himself was a relatively famous Columbia University classics professor and scholar who eventually committed suicide due to the loss of his job after being sued by a secretary for breach of promise of marriage.
