  • Arrangement

This collection is arranged as a single series, with two subseries: Ives Manufacturing Company materials, and Ives family materials.

  • Biographical / Historical

The Ives family has been settled in Connecticut for many generations, and has been well known for just as long. The Ives Manufacturing Company, Edward Carter Ives, and even Currier & Ives company just to name a few are all the same familial line. Candee Weed, nee Ives, was born in Greenwich and donated this material to the Greenwich Historical Society. Born to World War II veteran and submariner Edward Carter Ives, she grew up in Greenwich and returned later in life, remaining until her death in 2022. The materials in this collection were compiled by her through communication with her relatives and her own research.

  • Scope and Contents

The Ives family material is comprised of personal items and collected newspaper and magazine articles, spanning from 1832 to 2006. The collection is mostly made up of photographs and collected documents of the family's history, and a small amount of information collected about the Ives Manufacturing Company and their toy trains. Of particular interest might be the Edward C. Ives folder which includes a number of World War II naval documents, and an original "Careless Talk Costs Lives" small propaganda poster, a copy of the WWII cruise book for the USS Montpelier called "Mighty Monty", and an original Stars and Stripes Magazine issue from May 2nd, 1945 annuouncing the death of Hitler.
