  • Biographical / Historical

The Townsend Genealogy Collection follows the genealogical history of the Townsend name. The three Townsend brothers, John, Henry, and Richard, came to America sometime around 1630, and this genealogical record traces back some of their lineage through to their descendants into the 1990s. "The brothers contributed greatly to New York and America. [Their] descendants are to be found in politics, religion, education, military, business, and many other fields of endeaver." (Source: The Townsend Genealogy compiled and edited by Leland Henry Townsend, Jr., 1981).

  • Scope and Contents

This collection contains records and information from 1892 to 1997, with the bulk of the material being late 1800s to early 1900s. The books are individually catalogued and the Hereditary Societies series is broken up into folders by society name. The newspaper clippings in the Genealogical Research and Notes series have all been copied, and those copies are foldered with the clippings themselves.
