Frances Chmielowiec Geraghty is the daughter of John and Catherine Kuziara Chmielowiec, both of whom came from Poland to Glenville at about the turn of the century. They met here, and were married in 1903.
Mrs. Geraghty, born in 1907, is the third of their ten children. Her sisters were Mary, Eleanor, Anita, Ceclia, Theodora; and brothers Edmund, Edward Chalmers, Stanley, and George.
She attended Greenwich public schools and worked at Electrolux Corp. during World War II. For many years, she worked for the Greenwich Probate Court and the Greenwich Tax Collector's offices.
Geraghty often gave interviews and shared photographs and memorabilia with local citizens and newspapers about life in Glenville during the early 20th century. Her oral history is on file at the Greenwich Library and there is a copy available in the Greenwich Historical Society's library.
Mrs. Geraghty was married in 1930 to William Geraghty of Greenwich, who died in 1974.
Frances Geraghty died in 2005 at the age of 97.
