Series I contains the papers of Florence Finney that pertain to her work as a State Representative and later a State Senator. This series is divided into five subseries. The first subseries contains her professional correspondence, organized chronologically. In addition to correspondence between Florence Finney and her peers, invitations, letters of reference, and constitutent requests are included in this subseries. The second subseries contains the letters written t Florence Finney by her constituents requesting that she vote for or against pending legislation, and ofter her written response to those letters is attached. This correspondence is arranged chronologically and separated by issue. Some were authored by local business interests and others by average citizens. This subseries is especially useful in understanding which issues were important in the Greenwich/North Stamford area and also in determining the level of civic interest of the Greenwich residents. Worth noting in this subseries is the contemporary nature of such issues as environmental protection, gun control, voting legislation, and birth control or "maternal health."

Subseries I.3 contains other legislative material including papers from Senate sub-committees, notes and copies of ehr public addresses. The fourth subseries contains papers regarding Florence Finney's successful bids for election between 1962 and 1972. Also included are newspaper clippings from her consideration as possible Secretary of State and her election as President Pro Tempore in 1973. This subseries also contains printed material regarding state and notably the 1964 Johnson-Goldwater presidental race. The final subseries I.5 contains printed materials that relate to this period. This collection includes papers from the Organization of Women Legislators (OWLS), copies of House and Senate bills, and a copy of the state constitution.
