Series V is the ephemeral collection of Helen Binney Kitchel. Items include military patches and pins from WWI, train tickets from th 1950's, and a 1926 New Haven Rail Road train schedule. Of particular interest is a pen saved by Mrs. Kitchel that was used by Connecticut Governor Wilbur Cross to sign the Representative Meeting Act in 1933, which changed the organization of the Town Meeting in Greenwich from one in which every citizen had a voice to the Representative Town Meeting, in which Greenwich citizens elected a district representative to speak for their interests during the meeting. Mrs. Kitchel was a long-standing elected Representative in the RTM. There is also a black leather book from 1917 in the collection with signatures, addresses and short messages to Mrs. Kitchel from Red Cross soldiers who appeared to have stayed with the Kitchel family while on leave. Note should be taken of a poem in the book dedicated to Allan F. Kitchel. This poem, "To Those Who Staid at Home" was written by Vernon A. Crooman, captain of the 311th Infantry. (There are also personal letters to Mrs. Kitchel from Mr. and Mrs. Vrooman from the 1920's in Series I, folder 2). Also included in this collection are newspaper clippings, loose family photos, holiday cards, announcements, invitations, programs, brochures from her travel, and maps.
