Series I is divided into two subseries, the first containing the papers of Mrs. Kitchel and the second containing the papers of other family members. Subseries I.1 contains Helen Binney Kitchel's personal papers, correspondence and newspaper clippings. The collection includes a copy of her birth certificate, the deed and property transfer agreements to 300 acres in East Burke, Vermont which Mrs. Kitchel donated to the Lyndon Institute in 1977, and the deed to Natural Park (Laddins Rock/Harding Road/Brown House Road), now called Helen Binney Kitchel Natural Park. This series also contains articles written by Mrs. Kitchel, as well as correspondence and newspaper clippings regarding the Garden Club of Old Greenwich, The Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. All correspondence is organized chronologically, with undated items last.
In the second subseries are the personal papers of other family mambers. The correspondence of Allan F. Kitchel in addition to his military records and memorabilia from World War I are filed here. Alice Dead Binney's personal correspondence as well as papers relating to her musical compositions and copyright agreements are included in this collection. Mrs. Kitchel also had a large collection of her mother's sheet music; many of the compositions have personal dedications to Helen Kitchel handwritten on them. Clippings of the death announcements of Edwin Binney from hte New York Times, the Ft. Pierce News Tribune, the Greenwich Time, and other local papers are included as well. Mrs. Kitchel also collected newspaper clippings about other relatives and afmily friends, these are also included in this series.
