The Brush and Lockwood families were joined by the 1855 marriage of Mary Angeline Brush and George A. Lockwood. The collection includes personal writings of family members, correspondence, deeds, estate material, and material relating to the Stanwich Society.

This collection contains correspondence, deeds, and financial documents of the Hoit family of Stanwich, Connecticut and related families (Brush, Ferris, Hull, Ingersoll). The collection also contains papers concerning the Stanwich Society.

Scope and Contents This material is comprised of several different object types spanning over 200 years. The majority of the collection is comprised of real property deeds and mortgages, mostly from the mid-1700s to the late 1800s, although there are a few that go into the early 1900s. In the 1800s materials there are also large groups of correspondence, several diaries, store ledgers, and school books. Scope and Contents These papers are primarily comprised of Bill’s collected research and documents. Bill was often asked to write histories and biographies of people and places in town, but also researched and collected documents on his own particular interests. He was especially interested in mail, postmasters, stamps, post offices, etc.; in Christ Church, as his mother was a devoted member and he was close friends with many of the congregation and clergy; and in his family’s and related families...
