Biographical / Historical
In the 1960s and 1970s Elizabeth Clarke (later Mrs. John O'Connor) was an active researcher and writer on the early history of Greenwich. Her original published project on the First Congregational Church broadened to include a book, "The First Three Hundred Years." As an active member of the board of the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich, she served as publication director and was responsible for the 1970 and 1972 publication of booklets on "Greenwich Historical Collections" and was the editor of both "Before and After 1776" and "Before and After 1778." For the town's Bicentennial celebration she collected photographs and wrot the script for "The Way it Was," a slide show that was presented at Cole Auditorium. She also transformed the material from the Town's Annual Reports (from the Board of Estimate and Taxation) into more readable "Town Summaries" that were distributed to all taxpayers.
